Note change of coach for May 4 Virtual Mini-workshop

Due to a scheduling conflict, Jen Carpenter will be unable to present her previously scheduled virtual mini-workshop on May 4. We are very pleased to present a replacement coach for the May 4 mini-workshop. Frances Blaker, will present a program that should be most interesting and you will not want to miss it. Frances is a very well-known performer, coach and presenter and will be part of the staff of the Amherst Early Music session at Union College this summer. Check out her biography on the Activities page. We hope to plan a mini-workshop with Jen next season.

Record Participation in Today’s Virtual Mini-Workshop

We are thrilled to announce that a record 39 recorder players joined this morning’s session, led via Zoom by Tom Beets and Joris Van Goethem (The Flanders Recorder Duo). These excellent musicians, members of the recently retired world-famous Flanders Recorder Quartet, presented a fascinating look into music reaching all the way back to the 1300’s and encompassing what Beets admitted were favorites of the pair from their years with the quartet. Participants were introduced not only to some important early music but also some great tips on original interpretation, adaptation of the original to current practices, and meanings and historical placement of the texts upon which these examples of early music were based.

It is truly exciting that modern technology has allowed us to gather in our homes to share ideas with world-class musical educators based and “broadcasting” in Europe and has extended the active membership of HMRS far from our home bases in New York’s Capital District and those of our co-sponsors on the Connecticut shore. Participants in today’s session live in locations ranging from Rochester, NY to points in Florida!
